Strong Dads, Healthy Families
Maternal and infant health disparities disproportionately impact African American families, particularly in Knox County, where Black women experience maternal mortality rates nearly three times higher than their white counterparts. Research confirms that engaged fathers improve birth outcomes, reduce maternal stress, and enhance infant development, yet systemic barriers prevent many from accessing education, mentorship, and culturally competent support.
Gennisi Charitable Birth Services will launch a father-focused initiative, including the Daddy Doula Program, Expectant Fathers’ Bootcamp, fatherhood mentorship, and mental health resources to equip fathers with the tools to support their partners and children. By increasing father engagement, this initiative will strengthen maternal health, boost breastfeeding success, and improve early childhood development, reducing disparities and fostering lasting generational change.
