On November 14, 2018, Trinity Health Foundation of East Tennessee, in collaboration with Blue Cross Blue Shield of TN and Leadership TN, held a community event at Hotel Knoxville to address the opioid epidemic in Knoxville. Sam Quinones, a recognized national expert on the trends that lead to the opioid crisis, spoke to the group of over 440 individuals. Mr. Quinones shared insights gained from six years of research in creating his book Dreamland. His presentation was followed by a Community Roundtable facilitated by Dr. Jerry Askew of the Alliance for Better Non-Profits and Edward Groody of Community Building Institute to discuss and seek action plans to address this challenge locally. Blue Cross Blue Shield of TN, Leadership TN, and Trinity Health Foundation were joined by many community partners to encourage a strong community effort and make this event a success!
