The following are examples of the significant grant activities that our predecessor foundation, the Mercy Health Partners Foundation (Mercy), supported throughout Knoxville and East Tennessee. Through the years, Mercy provided over $30 million in health-related grants to a wide variety of causes. Trinity, thankfully, has the opportunity to carry forward the mission.

  • Geriatric Assessment Program: provided funding for the multi-disciplinary, outpatient assessment and treatment program designed to address the emotional, social and functional health of individuals ages 55 and older.
  • Childhood Obesity and Heart Disease Prevention (CARDIAC Kids Project): Funds helped provide operational costs of a program for cholesterol- screening aimed at identifying both children and their parents who have abnormal cholesterol levels as well as other cardiovascular disease risk factors. It is a project for children and their parents throughout East Tennessee. It began as a pilot program screening 5th graders in six elementary schools in the spring semester of 2004 in the East Tennessee Counties of Knox, Sevier, and Cocke and has grown through the years to include additional schools as well as provide more education on the prevention of heart disease.
  • Dogwood Elementary School Clinic: Funds used to help provide the school’s clinic program to serve children from low-income neighborhoods.
  • Hospice Programs: Provided funding for education, operation, and equipment expenses for hospice programs and their patients.
  • Hope Resource Center: provided funds to help support their Christian ministry addressing the issues of sexual purity, health, unplanned pregnancy, and post-abortion stress through their departments of prevention education, counseling, medical clinic, and recovery programs.
  • Cancer Programs: Provided funding for research, education, and equipment expenses for cancer programs and their patients.
  • Indigent Patient Assistance: Provided funding for patients with low income or no insurance or facing financial hardship with living and medical-related expenses. Areas include cancer, ophthalmology, dental, and seniors.
  • Capital Equipment: Provided funding for capital equipment within the hospital facilities including patient room and ER expansion/renovation, Obstetrics and vascular robotic surgical equipment, conference center, birthing center, etc.
  • Medical Mission Projects: Provided funding for medical/dental equipment and travel costs for projects to areas including Haiti and China.
  • Nursing/Healthcare Education: Provided funds to help students pursuing degrees in healthcare areas such as nursing, medical technology, nurse anesthesia, etc. as well as provide continuing education opportunities to current health care providers.
  • Cardiovascular Programs: Provided funding for research, education, and equipment expenses for cardiovascular programs and their patients.
  • Catholic Charities: Funds supported pregnancy help center program that offers free, confidential, non-judgmental support to anyone facing an unplanned pregnancy.
  • Junior League of Knoxville: Provided funding for mini-grants that provides grants to Knox County educators for programs and/or supplies where funding is not available. Funding also provided to support the Junior League’s Children’s Health and Wellness Grants that promote the health and wellness of children in Knox County.
  • Emerald Youth: Funding to help programs that serve youth in inner-city churches by providing services of a youth minister.
  • Rural Healthcare: Funds help provide care to underserved populations in Appalachia who have little or no access to healthcare.
  • Volunteer Ministry Center: Funds are given to help build a healthcare clinic that will provide primary and preventative mental, dental, and medical healthcare for the homeless and non-working poor in the area where they live.
  • InterFaith Health Clinic: Funds used to help in providing accessible and affordable, quality healthcare to low-income and working uninsured, primarily through the support of religious, healthcare, and business communities.
  • National Embryo Donation Center: To help fund embryo adoption program that provides a variety of placement options for couples considering a donation of cryopreserved embryos as well as counseling for both donors and recipients.
  • Free Medical Clinic of America: help provide operational costs for a program that provides medical services to the working poor in our community.
  • Mission of Hope: Funds helped provide assistance to the people of rural Appalachia through this Christian ministry that provides back-to-school backpacks to children, Christmas clothes and toys, home renovations with repairs performed by volunteers using donated materials and scholarships to deserving students.
  • Parish Nurse Programs: Funds provided assistance to churches to help with their portion of the Parish Nurse’s salary and benefits and/or to provide assistance with the Parish Nurse budget at the church. The program was an outreach program of the Baptist Health System that involved the hospital, parish nurses, and churches of all denominations working together to meet the needs of East TN.
  • Senior Citizens Home Assistance Services (SCHAS): Provided funding for seniors at home or in a healthcare facility needing short or long-term respite care for a few hours or around the clock in Knox and surrounding counties.
  • Sleep Disorder Programs: Provided funding for equipment and renovation for sleep study and sleep disorder treatment programs.
