Theater My Way: Expanding Access to the Arts to Support Inclusive Youth Wellness

Arts for All Tennessee seeks to strengthen and expand its Theater My Way initiative, an inclusive theater program serving youth with disabilities in Blount and Knox Counties. This planning phase will focus on identifying best practices in adaptive arts education, youth mental health support, and inclusive program design, ensuring future program growth is both impactful and sustainable.

Through Theater My Way, youth with disabilities participate in sensory-friendly workshops, adaptive theater instruction, and peer-supported performance experiences. For many participants, this program represents their first opportunity to engage meaningfully in the performing arts, building confidence, fostering social connection, and supporting emotional well-being.

Grant funding will support engagement with expert consultants in special education, therapeutic arts, and inclusive program development. These consultants will guide curriculum refinement, mentor training models, facility design to ensure accessibility and safety, and evaluation strategies that better measure outcomes related to youth mental health, self-expression, and belonging. Funds will allow Arts for All Tennessee to research national models, connect with peer organizations, and develop a scalable framework for program expansion.

Arts for All Tennessee will ensure that future programming not only broadens access to the arts but also intentionally supports youth mental health, resilience, and overall well-being through creative expression and inclusivity.
