Housing Is Healthcare - Bridging the GAP
Jefferson County Habitat for Humanity (JCHFH) recently conducted a supply and demand analysis of the current market in Jefferson County. The findings were clear that the low-income working class of Jefferson County is grossly underserved due to the lack of affordable homes. Their focus as an organization is to increase the supply of affordable housing in Jefferson County. Affordable housing helps increase the discretionary income that low-income families have available to meet essential family needs or save for the future. High-cost housing leaves low-income families with little or no money left over, forcing them to make difficult budget trade-offs that lead to serious negative consequences. Cost-burdened families will neglect things like healthcare and good food choices to pay rent.
