Farming and Faith: A Path to Wholeness
Renovatus Recovery Community (RRC) proposes to research opportunities to expand a farm program by adding a food truck. “The Food Truck” will increase access to fresh, locally sourced, affordable, and healthy food grown and prepared by RRC participants. Recovering addicts are referred to RRC by public defenders, judges, and attorneys. RRC’s year-long residential program uses faith-based study and farming activities to teach critical work and personal management skills. There are two target groups: (1) recovering addicts and (2) an expanding community customer base for our affordable, healthy food. If successful, RRC can add The Farm Truck to increase its service area. Participants will gain experiences and skills to help them succeed as they graduate from the program and reenter their community. In addition, they will explore Homeboy Industries, a 30-plus-year-old, successful rehabilitation program in Los Angeles.
