On Wednesday, October 29th, the Trinity Health Foundation of East Tennessee awarded over $700,000 in grants to five nonprofit organizations as a result of a year-long effort to stimulate projects related to improving the physical, emotional, and spiritual health of East Tennessee. From 75 proposals submitted in April, 17 Phase I grant recipients who received over $200,000 for project planning and research were chosen. After three months of further development, five of these Phase I proposals have been selected to receive one-year implementation grants that will be announced on October 29th. This highly competitive process included visits to each organization, oral presentations, and written proposals to determine the project’s impact, collaboration, and sustainability. The quality of the ideas that emerged is a tribute to the great work done by so many nonprofit organizations in our community.
These awards culminate in the second year of Trinity’s Health Initiative Grants that target the community health of our region. Award winners ranged from emerging opportunities to start telemedicine networks providing health access to underserved areas, recovery facilities for mothers and infants suffering from substance abuse, marriage enrichment networks to strengthen the family, and establishing a nonprofit resource center serving the numerous organizations that serve our community. These proposals were selected based on the impact and the potential for sustainability demonstrated in written reports, oral presentations, and site visits. Trinity is honored to be able to help some of the many community organizations that make our community strong.
